Kids Ultimate Finger Painting is one of the best freeform finger painting apps that I've tried on my Kindle Fire. The developer has rated it for kids aged nine and older, but it's simple enough to use that I think kids as young as 7-8 years old would enjoy it.
You begin with a blank canvas. The drawing tools are shown at the top of the screen. Drawing tools include an Undo button, brush shape, brush thickness, color palette, and a novel brush color style. There is also a Puzzle button that will create a small jigsaw puzzle from your drawing.
The app has a huge number of combinations of brush sizes, shapes, and colors that should keep kids happily drawing for hours. If they're really proud of their drawing, they can save it as a PNG file. Drawings are saved in your image Gallery (on the Kindle Fire), and they can be reloaded from there later.
